In which I graduate, enroll, and apologise at the same time…

Hullo everyone,

I haven’t wrote a poem, nor posted one to my blog for just over a month now. I miss it.

But I hope now, as I can happily say that I’ve been accepted onto my Masters course, I can return to it once again. I’m ecstatic at being selected for the course, as I wasn’t the strongest candidate, but now all that stands in my way is the funding (which I’m in the process of applying for), so all’s not set in stone – keeping my fingers & toes crossed!

A few more hurdles to jump over and then, hopefully, all being well, I can get back to being a bit more creative.

Apologies for the sudden hiatus, but life really does get in the way sometimes.

Onwards and upwards! x

Also, in case you missed it, here’s me, graduating:

I did it!

  1. Congratulations. I am so glad you have been chosen. You must be so pleased. Today, as the rain falls outside, I am filling in my application for my Masters which I hope to start next September.

      • MPhil in writing at Coleg Morgannwg. Why didn’t you have much hope? Only 8 are selected for my course each year – I’m not sure of my chances but I am going to give it my best shot.

        • Wow, that sounds like a great course! I didn’t really think I’d get on purely because it’s a complete change in degree profession. Usually only English graduates are accepted, so I’m pretty sure I’ve been accepted due to my grades in modules and overall enthusiasm. It’s been a tense wait!

8 places are few, but the only thing you can do is try, and try your best! I’ll definitely keep my fingers crossed for you. 🙂

  2. Congratulations Eve! Very well done! 🙂 When your done with your masters you should go get a PhD like me. The we can greet each other by saying “Doctor, Doctor” over and over again. I’ve been at it for a month now, never gets old! :p

  3. A proud moment for you! My daughter is just about to finish an MA in social work. Dissertation almost done!! Congratulations again and I’m sure you will do brilliantly! Fingers crossed for funding x

    • Oh, how wonderful! Best of luck to her and finishing her dissertation! I have to say, the thought of writing another so soon is a little daunting, but at least I’ve got a rough idea of how it works now. 🙂 Thank you x

  4. I’ve been missing you, too! Life does have a way of derailing creativity! But whatever you do, don’t give up your poetry, because the world would be a poorer place without it!

    • Aww, hullo Lorinda, I’ve missed you too! I’ve still been stocking up on poetry books during my time away; I picked up the most amazing 1900’s hardback by Elizabeth Barrett Browning – quite the find. 🙂 It’s been helping me stay in the loop!

      • Can’t resist saying – during the wedding ceremony of my hero and heroine in The Termite Queen, they each read a Sonnet from the Portuguese to the other. Very romantic!

  5. Congratulations on your graduation Evie! You look SPIFFY! Have missed reading your poetry. Dog and I need to read something appropriately (fill in the blank_____) from you for a smile. 🙂

  6. Well, I know that I’d rather you keep on with your life than slave over words for our sake. It’s bad to write purely for the compliments of others. With that said, I can’t wait to hear more from you!! 🙂

    • Very true about the compliments, Ben – it’s finding that middle ground huh?

And, it’s not slavery, not at all, otherwise I wouldn’t write anything at all! Just a bit of a dry spell while life evens out. But, I’ve taken the opportunity to do a lot of reading, so I’m not complaining too much, hehe~

  7. I had wondered where you were and if all is well with you. Congratulations on graduating. You look so cute 🙂
Will keep fingers crossed you get the funding Eve and it’s good to see you.

    • Hello, yes I’m sorry for suddenly disappearing! It’s been a stressful couple of months. I hope I get it too, this is the scariest part now, waiting. Thank you for the luck, it’s great to hear from you too. 🙂

  8. What a wonderful photo of you looking absolutely proud and radiant! Congratulations! This is a big accomplishment, and with your determination, the funding will come through. It’s a wonderful step to be accepted into the Master’s Program. Onward and upward is a great motivating phrase! D

    • Hello Debra, thank you, it’s lovely to hear from you again! It was a happy day after a longer-than-usual road to degreedom. 🙂 It’s nervewracking waiting for a response, I just hope it all works out.

  9. i’m all smiles seeing you at the finish line of one accomplishment and the beginning of the next! Wishing you the flames of inspiration to carry you though your Masters course, just don’t catch on fire!

    my warmest regards
    David in Maine USA

  10. Hi – sorry, I missed this one earlier! But many congrats, you look great and very happy, and why not? Congrats too on getting on the MA course and I’m sure you have a fab literary career ahead of you. It is crazy young that young people in England have to find these preposterous, outrageous and slavish fees, a complete disincentive to a) get a mortgage on top of loan repayments and b) stay in this country!
Whatever you do afterwards, good luck and keep writing! You are unique.

    • Hi David, great to hear from you!

Yes, it’s hard to find any kind of financial balance, especially when you’re from a humble earning family – I’m going to be struggling with money for a long while yet; it’s that kind of impact that worries me for the future, things like mortgages as you say. We shall see, I might not even get funding worse case scenario.

But thank you, it was a good day at graduation – something to celebrate after a long, winding journey. 🙂

I’ll keep writing, I’ve just not really written anything I think I should post lately!

  11. Eve, Many congratulatory hugs sent your way! You look awesome, happy and proud and you should be! I’m so happy for you, but have missed your thought provoking poems, too! My daughter and son will be applying this fall and I can’t wait until the process is finished. It’s quite head-spinning! Anyway, wishing you all the best in the MA program and in the future!

    • Hullo Lauren, so lovely to hear from you!

Thank you very much! It’s been a long journey with a few bumps along the road, but it’s all been mightily worth it. Applications and the like are always nerve-wracking, but the reward you get from going through it all more than makes up for it – I wish them both the best of luck. 🙂

I’ve been writing things on the sly as I’ve been away from the blog, though nothing I feel should be on here, you know? So, I’m working on things slowly; I’m sure I’ll have something I’m happy with soon. It’s been nice taking a break though, it’s allowed me to see things a lot clearer.

      I’ll see you soon!

  12. Oh wow, Stacey, I miss this. I am sorry, but congratulations! I am so happy for you. 🙂 I miss your poems too. It is November so now I suppose you are doing well with your master’s, hey? 😉
