We, creatures of mimicry – the gatherers of forked leaves, cherry blossoms stowed warm in your purse; the rain bicycle – not cycle – but bicycle: one we ride home, all “gung-ho”, better in a thunderstorm So, instead of talking to we, we, talk mostly, to the trees. Or, the blush-hop of a robin (splinters for tea) and, sometimes, the rat-tat-tat of light as it flashes through iron fences On Sundays, as the crowds line up, we, well-wishers, used lovers of Yggdrasil; ticket buyers terracotta sticking-plaster hoarders newspaper wrapping plastic perfume bottle top burning “We” bury thumbs in jam pots honey bee hotels swallow-throats, and sometimes the odd cactus flower Followers of anything called house home Until we, replace "I" with coat-tails rock-graves, the crawling on all fours until we find something “finer”.

This one hovers just outside my “oh I know what that means” certainty, and makes me read it again.
That’s absolutely fine! I know that this one is a little abstract, but thank you for reading it!
Hi Eve. That section beginning “the blush hop” and ending with “fences” is just brilliant. I particularly enjoyed this today. So much watching and mimmicking involved in our learning who we aren’t, and who we are.
Hope you have a lovely weekend.
“So much watching and mimicking involved in our learning who we aren’t, and who we are.” – is so accurate!
Thank you for your lovely comment! Hope you have a great weekend too. 🙂
“We creatures of mimicry” are always looking around for something new, different, fulfilling, interesting or “finer”…
Very cool. Glad I stopped by today.
Thank you! I’m glad too. 🙂
Very nice!
Cheers!
I read it many times and had to stop and try to get the whole picture. The result in my mind look like a cooperative work of Miro, Dali and Picasso. 😀 . Great writing. I love it. 🙂
Miro, Dali and Picasso are probably some of my favourite artists! Thank you for reading and commenting Francis. 🙂
Very nice, I dig the way the words are structured like the honeycomb. Very creative indeed…
Thank you for commenting! I didn’t actually realise that they looked that way until you mentioned it, my brain must have done all the hard work for me without me noticing! 😀
I had to read this a second time, Eve, and your words are brilliant, as always…your writing creativity tops the charts! xx
Thank you so much Lauren! That means the world!xx
Whenever I see a post from you, I like it, THEN read it. 😛 They’re just that good!
Oh my! Well, thank you! I don’t know what to say… 😀
I really like how you combine photographs/images with your entries. At my “traces” page (manoftheword.com) there is a writing inspired by your writing moniker. Nice work
Thank you. 😀
Very nice!
Thanks again Millie!
This is a lovely poem, and I am already looking forward to perusing your archives.
“Until we, replace “I”
with
coat-tails
rock-graves,
the crawling on all fours until we find
something
“finer”.”
This will stick with me today.
Thank you for visiting my blog Cara! I hope I see more of you around in the future too. 🙂
The words are always good, but the structure here is something else.
Home run hit. Still travelin’.
Thank you, I really appreciate it! 🙂
There are so many lines and images evoked here that moved me; your rhythm grabbed me and drew me. Beautiful.
Thanks so much!
I love your blog by the way. 😀
Beautiful 🙂
Thank you for taking the time to read this!
‘We” clever fun!
Thanks!
Beautiful poetry and structure. Love the combination of the poem and the image.
Thank you for your comment! I’m happy that you like it. 😀
Nice! Makes me think of how we all are created with a “God-shaped” void constantly searching for what can truly fill that void in our lives.
Below are my favorite lines:
So,
instead of talking to we,
we, talk mostly, to the trees.
Or,
the blush-hop of a robin
(splinters for tea) and, sometimes,
the rat-tat-tat of light as
it flashes through iron
fences
“constantly searching for what can truly fill that void in our lives.” – pretty much sums it up!
Thank you for reading and commenting!
love all the details and creative descriptions…the rat-tat-tat of light as
it flashes through iron
fences…. great..
I appreciate it Claudia, thank you!
Lush and perfumed, this one.
“the blush-hop of a robin” is such a lovely image/phrase. I’m enjoying your writing very much.
Thank you very much Steven! Hope to see you here again!
“the crawling on all fours until we find
something
“finer”.”
Fantastic. sharp and black, yet technicolor…
